Artist’s statement
Capturing the details and the beauty is what I strive for in my work. If I see a beautiful sky, seascape or landscape I want to paint it and if I see a beautiful portrait I want to draw it. Nothing is more exciting than to figure out how I’m going to get the likeness and details in a piece and to actually see it come together. I just want people to feel the beauty in my art whatever the subject.
My grandad was an artist, so from an early age I grew up with the smell of turps and paint. It wasn’t until the end of 2012 that I decided to teach myself to draw, sadly my grandad had passed away in 2011 so never saw my artwork. I started off with graphite pencils and by July 2013 I decided to try coloured pencils. I never thought I would be able to achieve a likeness but really surprised myself and I soon started using pastels as well and was drawing both people and animals.
In 2016 I won a prize at a local art exhibition and I have been published twice in 2016 and 2023 in Ann Kullbergs “ Hidden treasures” art books.
As of 2025 I now work in graphite, coloured pencil, pastels, acrylic and oil paints. I create a range of artwork from my own original pieces to landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, pet and human portraits. As a creative person I don’t want to be limited to using one or two mediums or concentrating on one or two subjects, as I enjoy creating different subjects and sometimes I like to combine more than one subject in a piece of artwork.
I create original pieces, prints and cards of my work and you can see these in my shop section of this website.
